Entry: Voice Menu Information Mar 30, 2009

Voice Menus can be provided in the form of two different applications:
  1. Automated Attendant with Time-of-day controls, which a) answers calls, then allows caller to reach an extension by prompting the caller to enter a menu choice; b) plays an announcement which the caller listens to or hangs up; c) plays an announcement, after which a message can be left.
  2. Information Menus offer calls single digit access to pre-recorded information in the form of a) announcements only; or b) multi-level announcements.

An example of a menu service on campus is the University Business Services at extension 1991. The University Business Services' main voice menu includes offering many choices, followed by a submenu with more choices. Selected choices are then forwarded to a live attendant, whom has a voicemail box of their own.
